With conventional brachytherapy, local control of cervix cancer is ~75-95% in early and 30-65% in advanced tumours.
MRI guided brachytherapy gives impressive results: in EMBRACE-I study, local control was 98% to 90% for stage I to IV. Morbidity was low.
CT-guided brachytherapy is a low-cost alternative to MRI approach. Early experience is favorable.
~604 000 women were diagnosed and 342 000 died from cervix cancer in 2020. Low-middle income countries carry ~90% of this burden.
In addition to vaccination and screening, access to treatment is central to the WHO global initiative for elimination of cervical cancer.
To disseminate knowledge on cervix cancer radiotherapy with emphasis on image guided brachytherapy.
We design courses in collaboration with professional societies from countries with high cervix cancer incidence and/or low radiotherapy resources.
