Nadarajah Jeyakumaran
Dr. Nadarajah Jeyakumaran has obtained MD in Clinical Oncology at the University of Colombo,
Sri Lanka and Board Certified as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist in the year 2004. Now he works
at the National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka and also holds the post of President of both the Sri
Lanka College of Oncologists (SLCO) and SAARC Federation of Oncologists (SFO). He is actively
involved in patient care, research and teaching of undergraduate & postgraduate students. He
has also involved in IAEA projects relating to access to radiotherapy in PNG. He also likes to
involve in developing community based palliative care.
Primoz Petric
Senior consultant at the Department of Radiation Oncology, University Hospital Zürich, Switzerland, and Clinical Associate Professor at the Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark. Since 2009 member of Faculty at the ESTRO course on Gynaecological malignancies. Member of Gyn GEC ESTRO Working Group and EMBRACE Study Group. Main clinical & research interests: brachytherapy and gynaecological oncology. He published numerous manuscripts and chapters in scientific journals & books. He led implementation of image guided brachytherapy at 3 institutions.
Chinthaka Appuhamy
Consultant Radiologist at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama, Sri Lanka, senior lecturer at the University of Kelaniya, Faculty of Medicine, and publishing academic author. He received his MBBS at the University of Colombo, Faculty of Medicine and the title of Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) in the United Kingdom. He is certified by the European Board of Interventional Radiology and holds a European Diploma in Radiology. He underwent Fellowships in Vascular Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology in Singapore, and General Radiology in India.
Gayani Ranaweera
Dr Gayani Ranaweera MBBS, D.path, MD (Histopath), FRCpath(UK) is a Consultant Histopathologist and Senior Lecturer attached to the Department of Pathology, Faculty of medicine, University of Colombo. She is a trainer in the Colombo cluster of postgraduate trainees in histopathology and the Assistant Director of Training at the Centre for Diagnosis and Research in Cancer (CeDARC), University of Colombo.
Dr Ranaweera was a past secretary and a council member of the college of pathologists of Sri Lanka.
Her research interests include gynaecological and thyroid pathology.
She has received several research awards including the Presidents award for research and publications.
Nuradh Joseph
I am Consultant Clinical Oncologist working in the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka.
Having graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo in 2006, I
completed my MD in Clinical Oncology in 2012 being placed first in the order of merit. In
addition, I have obtained the MRCP(UK), the Specialty Certificate in Medical Oncology and
the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) in Clinical Oncology.
Currently, as the Vice Chair of the Sri Lanka Cancer Research Group I lead several multi-
disciplinary collaborative studies. With more than 20 publications in several high impact
factor journals such as Lancet Oncology , Journal of Thoracic Oncology and Annals of
Oncology, I have also co-authored a chapter on Radiotherapy in Bladder Cancer in the
textbook Treating Urothelial Bladder Cancer published by Springer International.
A reviewer for many national and international journals, I also serve on the Editorial Board of
Radiation Oncology’s highest impact journal - the International Journal of Radiation
Oncology, Biology and Physics as an Associate Senior Editor for Genitourinary Cancers.
I am involved in Postgraduate teaching in Radiation Biology and Clinical Oncology for
trainees of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo and of the
Christie School of Oncology, University of Manchester, UK. I also lead the imaging for
oncologists e-learning initiative of the Royal College of Radiologists, UK.
I received the Helen Patterson Research Award from the British Uro-oncology Group, the
Presidential Award for Scientific Publication and a Translational Research Fellowship by the
European Society of Medical Oncology in recognition of my contribution to cancer research.
Ina J Schulz
Ina Jürgenliemk-Schulz graduated in Biology at the University of
Bochum, Germany in 1983. After medical study she received her MD
from the same University in 1989 and completed her PhD in 1990. She
is staff radiation oncologist at UMCU in The Netherlands. Concerning
clinical interest she specialized in external beam radiotherapy and
brachytherapy for gynecologic primary tumors and nodal disease. With
respect to technical developments she was leading physician during
the implementations of MRI guided brachytherapy and of MR Linac at
UMCU. From April 2020 to May 2022 she was chair of GEC-ESTRO.

Bhavana Rai
Professor in Radiation Oncology at the Department of Radiotherapy & Oncology, Tertiary Cancer Centre, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, India. Her areas of interest include treating gynecological cancers and palliative care. She has been actively involved in gynecological cancer research and is a collaborator with various national and international research projects including the EMBRACE studies.
Kari Tanderup
Professor Kari Tanderup, PhD, Department of Oncology, Aarhus University Hospital in Aarhus, Denmark. Her main research interests are cervix cancer radiotherapy, clinical studies, imaging, and brachytherapy technology. Within these topics she has authored 170+ papers and has supervised 10+ PhD students.
Kari Tanderup is chairing the GEC ESTRO gyn network which represents the most active core European academic centers within gynecological brachytherapy, and embraces members from Central/Eastern Europe, India, Canada and USA. Through past and on-going activities this group is internationally recognized as a leading group in gynecological image guided brachytherapy. The group has published international guidelines, which are now used worldwide. The GEC ESTRO gyn group has also initiated the EMBRACE studies. EMBRACE I is an international multicenter study on MRI guided brachytherapy in cervix cancer (1416 patients enrolled in the period 2008-2015), and this material is currently generating a wealth of clinical evidence on outcome as well as dose and effect relationships. The EMBRACE II study is benchmarking advanced EBRT (IMRT and IGRT) and BT (prescription protocol and advanced applicators) (>1400 patients enrolled in the period 2016-2021). Finally, Kari Tanderup is interested in brachytherapy technology. She coordinates international efforts to facilitate and promote in vivo dosimetry through network meetings, joint research activities, and collaboration with industry to support that improved technology can become available for patients.
Christian Kirisits
Dr. Christian Kirisits, Associate Professor at the Department of Radiation Oncology, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Medical University of Vienna, is co-author of more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles in international journals and also made numerous contributions to conference proceedings, as a book editor and as a faculty member at international conferences.
He performed various functions, including chairman of the European Brachytherapy GEC ESTRO Committee. He was a Coordinator of the Committee for the ICRU 89 report on Gynecological Brachytherapy and is currently one of the Coordinators of the EMBRACE I and II clinical trials.
Jacob Lindegaard
Jacob Christian Lindegaard (1959), consultant, MD, DMSc, Department of Oncology, Aarhus University Hospital (AUH), Denmark. Educated at Aarhus University. Preclinical research with professor Jens Overgaard. Past president of GEC-ESTRO. Since 2005 responsible for image guided adaptive brachytherapy at AUH.
Umesh Mahantshetty
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Umesh Mahantshetty, DMRT, MD, DNB (RT) is the Director of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Visakhapatnam, India and was formerly working at Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai India, where he led the GYN Radiation Oncology group. After completion of MD and Senior Residency at Tata Memorial Hospital, he has completed fellowships in brachytherapy and newer imaging at Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam NL and MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA. Dr. Mahantshetty coauthored the ICMR Guidelines for Cervical Cancer and international ESGO / ESTRO guidelines for Vulvar and Cervical Cancer. He was consultant to the recent ICRU 89 Report on GYN Brachytherapy and Senior Editor of various International and National Journals.
He has been the Secretary of Indian Brachytherapy Society (IBS) since 2013 and part of Executive Committees of Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI) and GYN Oncologists of India (AGOI) since many years. He delivered numerous lectures at various national and international scientific forums and has been actively involved as faculty of ESTRO School for GYN Radiation Oncology and Advanced Technologies courses, IAEA training Activities and is Director of AROI – ESTRO Course in India.
He has approximately 200 publications in peer reviewed journals and text book chapters. He was involved in some practice-changing research. In January 2021, he was labelled as “world expert” by Expertscape for being in the top 0.1% scholars in the field of Uterine Neoplasms in the past decade.
Laura Motisi
Consultant at the Department of Radiation Oncology, University Hospital Zürich, Switzerland. After Fellowship at the University Hospital Wien, with focus on Brachytherapy for cervical cancer and helping in the EMBRACE study, she has been focused on brachytherapy treatment. Active member of ESTRO, she is a Tutor since 2016 for different Contouring Workshop in FALCON Group and also member of Breast GEC ESTRO Working Group.
Max Schmid
Maximilian Paul Schmid, radiation oncologist and head of brachytherapy at the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical University of Vienna, part of the coordinating team of the EMBRACE studies.
Taran P Hellebust
Taran Paulsen Hellebust is a medical physicist that has been involved in GEC ESTRO gyn network since the start in 2005 and is participating in many of the activities that are run in this framework. She was part of the faculty of ESTRO gyn course until 2018. At the moment she is head of the Section for Research and Development (Department of Medical Physics) at Oslo University Hospital and an Associate Professor at the University of Oslo.

Nicole Eder-Nesvacil
Nicole Eder-Nesvacil, DSc, Associate Professor at the Medical University of Vienna, Department of Radiation Oncology. Since 2016 member of the faculty at the ESTRO course on advance brachytherapy physics, since 2019 member of the faculty at the ESTRO course on gynaecological malignancies. Member of the Gyn GEC ESTRO Working Group, the EMBRACE Study Group and the EMBRACE study office. Her main research interest is image-guided adaptive brachytherapy with MRI, CT and ultrasound, and evidence-based decision support.

Michael Baumgartl
Michael Baumgartl was trained as aircraft mechanic and then studied physics at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. After completing his studies, he was a medical physics trainee at the University Hospital Basel and attended the Master of Advanced Studies ETH programme in Medical Physics in Zurich. He has worked at the University Hospital Zurich as an SSRMP-registered medical physicist since 2018. His focus is on MR-guided adaptive radiotherapy in brachytherapy and EBRT with a MR-Linac.
